Melillo Method™ Melbourne

Our Process

As one of the few therapeutic spaces practicing the Melillo Method™ in Melbourne, we offer a specialised, evidence-based approach designed to support children with developmental, behavioural, and sensory challenges by addressing the root cause – not just the symptoms.

What to expect

We know that taking the first step can feel daunting, especially when it involves your child’s health and development. That’s why we’ve created a clear, compassionate, and personalised process to guide you every step of the way. From your initial call to ongoing care, each stage is designed to meet you and your child exactly where you are – and help you both move forward with confidence.

Here’s what to expect when you begin working with us.

  • Start with a free 10-minute Discovery Call to determine if we’re the right fit for your family’s journey.

  • This 70-minute assessment helps us understand how your child’s brain and nervous system are functioning in relation to their age. Using non-invasive techniques, we assess:

    • Primitive reflexes – automatic and adaptive responses that develop during the neonatal period and integrate over time as the brain matures

    • Balance and postural tone – essential for motor control, coordination, and overall physical development

    • Vestibulo-ocular function – the link between the inner ear and vision, which plays a key role in spatial awareness and movement

We ensure your child feels safe and comfortable while gathering as much valuable information as possible.

  • On your child’s second visit, we:

    • Review a detailed homecare plan with exercises designed to support brain development and balance

    • Recommend a customised schedule of care

    • Commence treatment (if time allows)

  • Based on your child’s unique needs, we implement our recommended schedule of care, which typically includes weekly 60-minute hands-on therapy sessions, using multimodal techniques such as:

    • Laser Therapy (Photobiomodulation)

    • Stimpod Therapy

    • Interactive Metronome

    • Multi-Sensory Stimulation

    • Specific Brain Balance Exercises

We also offer Intensive Weeks to provide a focused program designed to accelerate progress and kickstart long-term improvements.

What’s an Intensive Week?

An Intensive Week at Flourishing Brains provides a structured, immersive approach to stimulating neural pathways critical to your child’s development. Because the brain rewires through repetition, concentrated therapy over a short period can be highly effective in creating lasting change.

During an Intensive Week:

  • Your child receives 4 hours of treatment per day over 4 days (with a break day in between).

  • Therapy is personalised to target the areas that need the most support.

  • The structured approach helps build momentum and reinforces progress.

Our Location

Flourishing Brains is a home practice based in Point Lonsdale (near Melbourne) in Victoria, offering a one-on-one, low-stress environment tailored to your child’s needs.

We also have our beloved therapy dog, Henri, a friendly Labradoodle who can provide additional support. Henri can be kept away during sessions if your child prefers.

FAQs

  • No, only a Paediatrician can provide an official diagnosis. However, we can identify traits consistent with conditions like Autism and recommend seeking medical verification.

While we don’t diagnose, we offer targeted strategies to support symptom management and improve brain function.

  • Yes, we work with children across the entire Autism spectrum. Please contact us to discuss your child’s specific needs.

  • Absolutely. We have extensive experience working with children who find it difficult to concentrate. Our assessment techniques are adapted to suit each child’s needs, ensuring we can gather valuable insights regardless of their attention span.

For children who struggle to concentrate or don’t yet feel comfortable during their initial visit, we take a slower, more gentle approach to their examination across consecutive appointments. This ensures they can still experience the benefits of treatment in a way that feels safe and supportive.

  • Many children resist structured exercises, so we make them fun and play-based! During clinic sessions, we ensure you and your child are familiar and comfortable with the exercises to reduce friction during home practice.
